Shipment Insurance Process
Never ship uninsured — embed the insurance step into your sales flow.
What problem does it solve?
Shipment insurance runs disconnected from sales and delivery; uninsured shipments, coverage gaps and faulty premium tracking create serious financial exposure.
How does the solution work?
Conforcus's insurance process integrates shipment insurance into the sales order and delivery flow, binds insurance data to the relevant document and controls progression until coverage is in place.
What changes in practice?
The insurance step sits inside the sales order and delivery flow. Insurance details are recorded in insurance fields on the relevant document and move along with the delivery (VL01N) and shipment flow, so coverage information is held on the shipment's own document rather than in a separate list. The control and lock logic reads these fields: if coverage is not complete, the document does not move to the next step. When the insurance data is completed the lock is lifted and the shipment continues through its normal flow, and the shipping team sees the insurance status on the document.
Because insurance data is kept linked to the shipment, it can be reported: which shipment is insured, and the coverage and premium details, are followed from the documents in SAP. Premium and coverage tracking moves out of manually kept lists, and risk and finance reach the same data through reporting. The logistics team no longer has to compare shipments against a separate insurance list, because the control runs on the document. The risk of shipping uninsured depends on a lock in the flow rather than on individual attention, and gaps become visible before the shipment leaves.

Frequently asked questions
How does the insurance process link to the shipping document, and which shipments are subject to the control?
Insurance data is held in insurance fields on the relevant document in the sales order and delivery flow, so coverage information travels with the shipment. The control logic reads these fields and does not let the document progress until coverage is complete. Which shipments the control applies to is defined during setup according to the company's insurance practice.
Can a shipment leave before its insurance is complete?
No; the lock logic stops the document from progressing in the flow until coverage is complete. When the insurance data is recorded on the document, the lock is lifted and the delivery continues with its normal steps. The risk of an uninsured shipment therefore depends on the flow itself rather than on lists checked by hand.
Today we track premiums and coverage in separate lists; what will we be able to report in SAP?
Since insurance data is kept linked to the shipment, premium and coverage details are followed and reported at document level. Which shipment is insured and where insurance is still missing can be seen from the records in SAP without separate lists. Risk and finance teams work from the same data.
